Freshman Direct & Early Admission

The Construction Management Department enrolls a small number of students each year directly out of high school, prior to completion of any university-level prerequisites (Freshman Direct). Current UW freshman may also apply to the Construction Management department in the spring of their freshman year to enter as part of the Early Admission program.

Freshman Direct

Freshman Direct Deadline: April 1

Freshman Direct applicants should use this application. In addition to completing the department’s application, students should select “Construction Management” as their primary major choice on their UW application.

Admission is offered to students with exceptionally competitive academic records and compelling personal statements.

There are no specific courses that Freshman Direct applicants must complete prior to applying to the CM program, but students are encouraged to pursue rigorous math and science coursework during high school to prepare them for the work ahead in Construction Management.

Students admitted through the Freshman Direct program will work with the CM Adviser to plan their first two years of coursework before beginning the standard CM curriculum. They will also be eligible to join the CM student organizations, apply for scholarships and participate in student competitions.

NOTE: Students admitted via the Freshman Direct program must complete all prerequisite classes (during their first two years of study).

All applicants are encouraged to meet with the CM Adviser as soon as they decide to pursue a degree in Construction Management. You can meet in person on the UW campus or online via Skype. Set up an appointment now.

Early Admission (for UW freshman)

Applications for the Early Admission CM Program are due by April 1 of the student’s first year of study and are reviewed by the Department’s Undergraduate Admissions Committee during April. Offers of admission are typically mailed by mid-May. Admission decisions are based on an applicant’s academic performance and potential, extent and quality of relevant experience, apparent attitude, and personal motivation.

The Early Admission Program is open to students who:

  • Began their studies at UW as freshmen
  • Have been enrolled no more than three quarters
  • Have completed at least 27 credits at UW
(25 of the 27 UW credits must be numerically graded)

Early Admission candidates must complete the following courses before applying to CM:

  • MATH 112 (or MATH 124 or Q SCI 291)
  • PHYS 114 & 117 (or PHYS 121)
  • ECON 200 (recommended but not required)

Courses from the list of prerequisites should be taken to complete the required minimum 27 credits noted above.

Note: Completion of EA prerequisite courses does not guarantee admission.

Students admitted through the Early Admission program will work with the CM Adviser to plan their second year of coursework before beginning the standard CM Curriculum. They will also be eligible to join the CM student organizations, apply for scholarships and participate in student competitions.

All applicants are encouraged to meet with the CM Adviser as soon as they decide to pursue a degree in Construction Management. You can meet in person  on the UW campus or online via Skype. Set up an appointment now.
